Got Pews?
Around eight months ago, several short pews were removed from the chancel during the redesign. These had originally been intended as choir seating, but were replaced with movable chairs, bringing the choir together during worship, and allowing for greater flexibility in the arrangement of the chancel. Since that time, the old choir pews were put into storage. Unfortunately, due to their size, there is no convenient place in which to store them. As a result, they continually get shuffled around the church.
We are not honoring the memory of the old choir pews by shoving them around to different corners of the building. Likewise, even if we found a permanent storage space for them, how is it honorable to gather dust? With these thoughts in mind, I am forming a team representative of the Worship Area, Property Area, and Member Care Area to discuss and make a recommendation regarding the pews. We will also be considering, as asked by the congregation at the April 2008 Quarterly Business Meeting, all extra pews that are currently in hallways and/or in storage. We hope to bring a recommendation to the Leadership Coordination Team and ultimately to the church at the July 2008 Quarterly Business Meeting.
If you have thoughts, feedback, or ideas regarding the pews, please contact me, Andy Fuqua 523-3639, ext. 12 or andy@cbcspringfield.org). You can also talk with George Tankersley, Property Coordinator; Brenda Thornburgh, Worship Assistant Coordinator; or Mary Ellen Sharp, Member Care Pastor. Thanks!
